New Digs Underway: Groundbreaking ceremony for Ewing Automotive Group

June 10, 2014 Wes Phelan

At Banowetz + Company, we strive to build long-lasting relationships with our clients. That’s why it’s an exceptional privilege to have worked with the family-owned Ewing Automotive Group and its owner/president, Fin Ewing III, for over twenty years. We were especially honored to be a part of their most recent milestone — the groundbreaking for their new state-of-the-art facilities in Plano.

On the morning of Friday, May 30, Plano Mayor Pro Tem Lissa Smith and other community leaders joined Mr. Ewing, his family and representatives from Mercedes-Benz of Plano and Ewing Buick GMC to kick off construction on a thirty-one-acre site for their new facilities. Located on the Dallas North Tollway near Spring Creek Parkway, the site will expand the capacity of everything from the showrooms to the service bays — and include some nice additions such as children’s play areas and full-service coffee bars. The new, expansive 155,000-square-foot Mercedes-Benz of Plano and 119,000-square-foot Ewing Buick GMC are slated to open July 2015.

The Ewing Automotive Group was started in 1940 by the grandfather of Fin, Bruton Orand, and has spanned three generations. Though the company has undergone various moves and name changes, the one constant in the company’s history has been an unwavering commitment to customer service throughout the years.

We’re excited to see their continued growth, and look forward to being a part of whatever new ventures are on the horizon for our friends at Ewing.

With Bated Breath: Experiencing the Bates exhibit

April 16, 2014 Kris Murphy

This April marks Leon’s 50th trip around the sun and to celebrate, he took the Team to the David Bates exhibit at the Nasher Sculpture Center. We appreciate his making sure we get a regular dose of culture and some time out of the office. The exhibit is part of a first-time collaboration between the Nasher and The Modern in Fort Worth, where the two museums are simultaneously featuring the same artist but with emphasis on different works: Dallas has more sculpture and works on paper; Fort Worth has more paintings.

If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s really wonderful. We were all completely fascinated by how convincingly many of Bates’ sculptures appear to be constructed out of various materials other than what they are — bronze. Even under the closest scrutiny, many appear to be made from scrap corrugate and pieces of wood. Add to that the inclusion of some pieces that actually are wood, and it made for a fun guessing game. Equally intriguing was the comparison and contrast of his three-dimensional interpretation of an object versus his painting, and seeing just how beautifully it translated from one medium to the other.

After all that art gazing, we of course had worked up a thirst and appetite, so we ventured over to St. Ann Restaurant and Bar for a lovely evening on the patio with cocktails and appetizers. Here’s to Leon having more birthdays!

2013 marked the 25th anniversary of Banowetz + Company, and we couldn’t let it slip by without proper pomp and circumstance. So on December 19, 2013, together with over 250 clients, friends and family members, we gathered at DISH Restaurant and Lounge to celebrate a quarter-century of business success in the branding, graphic design and advertising industry.

While standing atop the bar wearing his illuminated Converse sneakers, Leon Banowetz offered a gracious toast to his guests, wife Molly and staff for making the Company’s success possible. The highlights of the evening were captured by photographer Steve Foxall (view entire gallery here). Team Banowetz enjoyed catching up with former and current clients off the clock, and everyone enjoyed the food and drinks. Here’s to twenty-five more years!
